Persons Unseen: a poem inspired by W.H. Auden

The following poem was inspired by a line from W.H. Auden’s poem In Sickness and in Health, which goes:

How warped the mirrors where our worlds are made.

Persons unseen
When we construct worlds through our reflections.
Broken mirrors all
Making sense out of our own receptions.
Not vague, nor shy,
Fascinated by the tumultuous
Warps of pride
Grip is lost in fantasies glorious.

Or is the opposite
From ego the temptation to despair?
Mirrors can be cruel
Where warps manifest only what is there.

Unity of persons
No warp or crack but pure reflection
Of deity clothed
In humanity of such condition,
Not of a mirror,
Rather a person whose image is love.
A voice resonating
Perfectly mediated by a dove.
